I've received my order for a couple of panes of the Winnipeg Jets Picture Postage(tm) 'primary logo' in panes of 40. Here is the actual pane:

Here is a detail comparing the stamps from the pane of 21 (top) and pane of 40 (bottom) ... quite a difference in the quality of print. It would be very easy to differentiate singles of each:

It turns out there is (maybe?) a constant variety on the stamp at R6C1; a black smudge mark to the right of CANADA:

Both of my panes have the variety and, talking to another collector who purchased ten panes ... all of his also had the identical mark.

Is the smudge on the 21 or the 40 panes?

...and does anyone know if there's also a visible quality difference between the other 21 and 40 stamps panes?

The smudge is from the pane of 40 stamps. As noted, the variety is at Row 6, Column 1 which could only come from the pane of 40.

The detailed images that were illustrated earlier, of a stamp from the pane of 21 (top) and pane of 40 (bottom), clearly show that there are visible differences between the two. Here is the image again:

I just received my 2011 lighthouse supplement and it shows an interesting variety for the Winnipeg jets stamp. It pictures 2 types (lithography, and another one shows Laser printing - is this from sheet of 40 or from the post card?)
Does anyone with the most recent Unitrade catalogue provide insights as to hoe to classify/number these?

The single Winnipeg Jets "Primary logo" stamp, from the pane of 21 is Unitrade # PP7.

The single from the pane of 40 is PP7a.

On page 568 of the 2014 Unitrade it says:
"the stamps from the pane of 40 (PP7a) had only the outer frame printed by lithography; the inner image was laser printed. The quality of print of the inner image is quite different between the pane of 21 and the pane of 40 stamps."
