I just put this rather ratty looking 1858-62 5 soldi red "Emperor Franz Josef" into the album.

5 soldi red

BUT, Scott lists two types.
Type I: "Loops of the bow at the back of the head broken"
Type II: "Loops complete. Wreath projects further at top of head"

CV is listed at $45 for type I (Scott 10a), and $12 for type II (Scott 10).

I have nothing to compare....

So, is this considered a type I or a type II?

Thanks for the help!

I believe the scan from Michel at the end of this thread applies to your stamp:

Yes, definitely Type II. Nice and visible. I had once a 2 kr yellow SON, due to the postmark it was impossible to figure out which type it was (postmark covered both number and top of the head).
Lombardy-Venetia note: red or blue cancellations are rare (ANK mentions it, guess other catalogues too...?)

I'd say it appears to be a Scott 10, type II.

Thanks to Cjd for pointing out the relevant thread, to Wadmalatz for the great comparison pic, and to warrehouse for the Scott number confirmation.

I was leaning towards type II, but noted the not quite complete loop where the ribbon loop connects to the head, so then was unsure. But the comparison pic, and especially the spiky hair nails it-type II.

Thanks guys!

Yeh JKblue I thought that about the incomplete loop but noticed the spiked hair also. I did not have any of my own for comparison.
