I'm sitting in my hotel room overly full of oysters and crab and thought I'd give a review of the Stamp Fest.
There were 12 dealers at the Fest, most out of Florida. I would give an 8 out of 10 for the dealers.
Unfortunately, I can only give a 3 out of ten for the rest of the show. There were some good door prizes, the facilities were nice, etc., but there weren't any exhibitions or anything else.
I was quite pleased from a Germany collecor's point of view because there were two immigrant dealers from post-WWII Germany there. I could have spent hours talking to them about their experiences in Germany as children. One now lives in St. Petersburg FL and the other from somewhere else in FL. Needless to say, they had a lot of interesting material. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of cash!

Too bad the show wasn't great Greg. But I imagine it was great talking to the 2 immigrant germans I can imagine they had lot's of interesting stories to tell. By the way I love Shellfish I bet they taste wonderfull in that part of the world. All I'm doing this weekend is digging in my garden. (or should I say mud cause it's rainning cats and dogs). I'm quite far behind in my garden maintenance let alone all the new projects I have planned. Oh well enough complaining. have fun the for the rest of youre trip. Dianne |

Greg, hope all in all it was a worthwhile experience..sounds like about the size of the monthly Albany show...we used to take a ride from time to time but its 70 miles each way..gas prices yadda yadda...if the show was a bit larger I would have asked about your experience with older Guatemala covers...while the ones back to 1945 are inexpensive...when you get into the 1920's and back they can be quite pricey...how was the attendance at the show..heavy ? spotty ? in between ???? |

It was pretty slow while I was there Phil. But it was storming very badly and it was early on Friday afternoon so I'm sure a lot of folks were still at work. It was big enough for me in that I spent everything I had set aside and was able to fill in quite a number of the mid-priced early semi-postal and Berlin holes in my album.
I didn't even get to Guatemala, but the two or three I asked didn't have much of anything from Central America. |

AHH N'Awlins. I would like to go back, that is where my wife and I spent our Honeymoon. Which is pretty comical because I don't drink at all and she doesn't like beer. LOL But we do like food, atmosphere, archetecture, music, and soaking in local culture.
Sounds like you found enough at the show if you spent all your money. |

New Orleans (did I spell that right?) sounds like fun As most of you know I'm Acadian and apparently there are many "cajuns" as it is one of the places my ancestors went after they were deported. It's one place I've always wanted to visit. Greg, I will be in Florida in Februrary visiting an uncle. I Can't remember the Town he's in but I'll be landing in West Palm Beach. Is a Road Trip at all possible from there.? I"d look it up but I'd rather spend time catching up on the forum. Dianne |

New Orleans is a 8 hour drive from Springfield IL. I've flown into West Palm, my grandmother lives in Stuart FL about midway between West Palm and Orlando. Driving to the Key West is quite a distance as well. How nice it would be to drive south and get away from this humidity. |

Dianne - it's not a trip for the faint of heart! PhilB is right - it would be much better to take the trip to Key West and spend some time in Margaretaville (or however you spell it!). |
