Hi Rodney, You're right about this number in a diamond being a London Inland Section postmark and this would have heen used in one of the main post offices in central London. The numbers of these postmarks don't match up with the numbers used in other England and Wales numeric postmarks so in this case it's not from Bracknell in Berkshire. It just so happens that I saw your post while I was at work today in Bracknell! |

Bracknell Bingo! Gee, thanks for that Nigel, I'll have to put a flag against the diamond duplexes explaining this. Where would you suggest one locates the London Inland codes then? Are they just an "Index" number for the hammers (I am a bit lost here) Thanks for any information. |

Is this how the cancel is supposed to look? Or is it two overlapping cancels that have produced a quite bizarre effect? Certainly, there seem to be two overlapping circles in the centre. While on things British, does anyone know what the placename is here? Thanks for looking! |

Hi Rodney, I've never been able to find a reference that indicates anything about the specific locations or dates of use for the individual numbers. |

Thanks for identifying Capheaton, nigelc!
I also agree that it's an "NPB" Newspaper Branch cancellation - or two of them, overlapping - but what I can't understand is how it's been doubled without the "NP" also being doubled. |

Happy to help but I can't claim any knowledge of Capheaton. Kudos for that belongs to AnthonyUK. |

Hi,there is a slight feint ink mark between the N & P, which is probably the leg of the first P. The stamps were often used on wrappers and it is likely that the wrapper was rounded and possibly not struck square on for the first strike, or the hammer was tilted, or ... Just my thoughts. Regards. |
