Hi to all
This cover is interesting to me as it says it is a 1st day cover for the Montreal-South Hampton Flight but the only postmarks it has are one from Montreal dated August 10th 1939 and two from Kenya on the reverse, one dated 16th August and postmarked at Nakupu, the other dated 18th August and postmarked at Pumuruti Kenya. Does this mean it never went to South Hampton England?
Any information appreciated.
Regards
Horamakhet

While I can't give you a definitive answer, I did check auction sites for the cover you have scanned and found three of them, all with the same cancellations on the face. I assume that means this sort of cancellation was standard issue back then. I find it rather interesting that in your example, as well as in the three examples recited below, all of the Montreal cancels are angled in exactly the same way (with the date in approximately the 8 o'clock position).

Interesting cover, Horamkhet. By the way, the towns postmarked on the reverse are Nakaru and Rumuruti. If I had to venture a guess as to the travel of this cover, it was flown from Montreal to Southampton, then flown to Nairobi, Kenya, then flown to Nakaru where it was backstamped. Then it most likely was carried overland to Rumuruti where it was backstamped.
