Snowdrops, or common snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) are depicted on this U.K. standard post stamp of private courier TNT Post (Netherlands). These flowers bloom in early spring. They are native to a wide swath of Europe, from eastern Spain to the Ukraine. From Wikipedia, "Although often thought of as a British native wild flower, or to have been brought to the British Isles by the Romans, it is now thought that it was probably introduced much later, perhaps around the early sixteenth century."  |
