I was just in Walgreen's drug store buying school supplies to take down to the orphanage in Mexicali when I noticed some nice 1 1/2 binders made by oxford that has a "D" ring and says No PVC on the outside. They were on sale this week as buy one for 3.99 and get another free, so $2 for 1 1/2 binder with a "D" ring and no pvc. I bought all of the black ones they had. Put some of my 3 holed punched heavy paper pages in one, and am very happy. I think Walgreen's also goes under another name in other states, so good luck.

A fellow - or gal - HAS to have matching binders! Or, even better yet, the same binders color coded to differentiate countries or collections. |

I was just reminded as I looked through my "preview" of the weekend STAPLES ad that sometimes stores in different areas of the country run different specials. For instance the Stales store in Flagstaff, AZ is a week behind the one here in California. So I hope you find the ad. Maybe I will go back again and get some other colors also to be more organized ( And do I really need that !) Jim |

No luck at Walgreens Kingston New York...Jimmy tjey had 1 1/2 inch binders two for 3.98..but not the quality you received..the least expensive acceptable D ring binders were 4.98 so we declined..when we stopped at Staples they had Heavy Duty 1 1/2 inch binders for 8 dollars and change...i will check Walmart..but Walgreens was a heck of a lot more reasonable than Staples ! |

Sorry Phil. Yes the D ring ones used to sell for the 4.98 here also, but this "back to school flyer" had the special. Come to think of it, the manager had to do something special to get the computer to take it Maybe they had mislabeled the sale?? Anyway, I went down and got some more dark blue to go with the black ones. The manager was quite curious as to why I needed so many binders !! Jim |

No big deal..we asked one of the dept managers and he thought the 4.98 ones were on sale..but the girl at the register rang up 21 dollars and change so I pulled my credit card back..they were decent binders..i guess I am still living in the days of the 2 dollar binders..i take 3 ring binders home from the schools ..i think you have some idea of the waste that goes on..you find perfectly good ones set out for the dumpster..i say recycle !! |

Hi Rick, Besides they are "green" in that when disposing of them, chlorine compounds aren't released~ The advantage is small, but I don't know if PVC has as much of a bad effect on pigments or not. I do know that chlorine compounds do act as bleaching effect, but how long ??

Jim, you should have told that manager, who was curious as to why you were buying so many binders, that you were rolling them up and smoking them! Just kidding, but what would it matter to him--it's a sale, right? It sounds like a great idea,too--I am going to look here in Illinois and see what I can find with all these back to school sales.

One other option if you need them four or six at a time is at a Sam's Club if you have one nearby. They often have great deals but it's somewhat hit and miss. With school starting soon they should be stocked up on binders, though. |
