Sorry filipo, but I do not agree with your opinion and so cannot share your enthusiasm. I am not an expert of Poster stamps and it's quite possible that there are some rare items in this album, but I have been looking at these types of stamps long enough to know that the price here is a bit steep. But let me explain. First, the album is very old and not of good quality. It looks more like a scrapbook to me...not good for long term storage of stamps. This can be seen by the way the glue or mounts have caused a number of stamps to discolour. Also, many of the stamps look like they have been breakfast for a family of mice...and that's not meant to be funny. They have mice nibbles written all over them. By the sellers own admittance, many stamps are wholly stuck to the pages which is quite the worst way for presentation and longevity of anything philatelic. Might I suggest that the seller knows very little about a]. Poster stamps b]. Storage or c]. Pricing.
I would not even bid on this lot, given the state of the stamps and the album, even if some are rare or scarce which makes it just sad. The original owner may have been proud but he sure as hell didn't know what he was doing.

you are looking them from your point of view, as a cinderella collector... and this is a cinderella subforum, so, maybe I put this topic on the wrong place... but I saw that some of the rare old german seals are selling for more than 50 dollars a piece... and there is a large number of seals in album...
however, I believe that for some researcher in the field this album could be a potential treasure... who knows, in the amazing world of stamps, you never know what is hidden "behind the walls"... ;) |

filipo, I went out and looked at the item you have indicated. I have been a collector since early 1950's so am not new at looking at old collections. After looking at what is offered, I have these comments. For a serious, accomplished collector, there is little if any value that I see in having this album. At $795.00 for 383 labels, the average cost per label is a little over $2.00/label. As an average, this would be high for pristine, unstuck down labels. I completely agree with Londonbus1's assessment. By the way, just because I am responding to a topic in a specific forum DOES NOT mean that I am only knowledgeable in that forum's subject matter. I have full respect and admiration for the knowledge and assistance our "long term" members provide in this web site. |

Its an interesting personal collection...but its not going to bring anywhere near the opening bid asked...my 800 dollars would be better spent somewhere else !! |

I agree with everybody here, $2,300 is way too high for mine.
I'd be interested around $150

I concur. I think there's some very interesting cindys there. I'm a real newby to this area, so I'm easily swayed by the unusual (which to me is almost everything) but that is a huge chunk of change for what you're getting. Whether rat nibbles or just tears, some would have to be immediately discarded. And an awful lot of them show a liberal use of glue. On the surface, tempting, but in reality not worth the asking price. |
