I've been receiving more and more of these missed opportunities for nicely canceled stamps lately and they don't seem to be limited to any particular country.
Are stamps tied on cover a thing of the past? Is "socked on the nose" a term destined for extinction? Are postal budgets so tight that even magic markers are no longer affordable? Do postal administrations just not care (yes, this question is rhetorical)?
I'd like to see other examples of what might have been but for want of a cancel.
I'll begin by posting an image of one I received yesterday on a bulky oversized envelope. I can see how this one might have evaded a machine cancel, but even standard letters seem to suffer a similar fate.
