Quote: The German yacht designs still look good after a hundred years and more.
Couldn't agree more, a very handsome stamp, a genuine classic. Perfectly balanced. |

The pfennig issues are 1900 [Michel and Yvert agree...Scott Classic lists as 1901] and the cents issues are 1905. |

This distant cousin of mine served in the German navy in the Chinese colony in 1904 on the S.M.S. Stein here he is in an old cardboard-backed photo. Moved to US before 1910. this is the ship, somewhat similar to the Kaiser's yacht |

The German Colonies yacht issues are probably my single favorite stamp design. German Colonies were the first area I collected, and they're the one area I'd stay with if I had to cut back. I've managed to acquire most of the yacht issues, other than a few of the rarer variations (I haven't scanned Kiauchau yet). Still have a ways to go on the yacht postal stationery, though! |

Lovely additions to this post, which is fairly new to me, when you see other perspectives of the Yacht, you understand the artist has captured the perfect perspective to fit the stamp frame in the normal issues. As a former sailor, I get a real sense of genuine movement. The only difference I can see to the photo image, the Kaiser's Yacht has two "stacks" (funnels) the photo appears to have only one. |
