If you are having trouble getting new issues feel free to contact Jan at the Springfield IL Main Post Offices philatelic window. The address is 2105 E. Cook St. Springfield IL 62703-9998. The phone number is 217-788-7200. She is usually available monday through friday 9-5. This is one way to help keep her window open by increasing revenue. The philatelic windows are always on the chopping block to cut cost.

Stamperdude! You mean they have a special window for us loony philatelic folks??
Wow, somebody who actually speaks our language and doesn't stand there scratching there head in confusion when you ask to see the newest release??!! Someone who knows a new stamp is actually out and has been for two weeks and doesn't aggravate you by telling you that you don't know what you're talking about??! Yes, it happens here at our local USPS.
I am amazed! I think Jan and I will become good friends!

Thanks!

Gussy,
She is a wonderful lady and enjoyes her job. Let her know that Josh sent you her way ;) She even has a copy of Linn's available and keeps the Springfield Philatelic Societies cards on hand for interested collectors. In fact, I am going to see her this afternoon to pick up a cover from the IL State Fair and see if she would be interested in letting me put together a rotating stamp display to draw more interest.

Sfgoda,
You are more than welcome for the info.

I'm pretty luck living in a small town. While I can't get everything the postmaster is a friend and she doesn't mind going through her stamps filling what I need.

Someday I will drive the extra 15 miles to the philatelic window in Johnstown.

Question: If you place an order through her, will she charge return postage, or is it considered to be Official Business?

Further question: Does the USPS still do year collections? I know they used to, and they also gave you a folder to display the new issues in, but it seems to me that I haven't seen any of those in a long time.

WpgLwr,
I am not sure if she will charge return postage or use a PP envelope. Yes they still issue annual commemorative sets that have all the Commemorative stamps, mounts, and a hardback book explaining each issue. It does not have the Definites or workhorse stamps. The cost varies year to year and averages around $70, but I could be incorrect on the cost.

Cool. Here's a link to the philatelic department so people can see what they have on hand to inquire about if they contact Jan.

Only makes sense to know what you're looking for before you go asking for it -- that way we're not wasting her time.
