I am just curious as to how many of you out there in cyber land belong to any organizational Philatetelic groups and why or why not?

I see a lot of questions about many subjects, which through general knowledge seems to be all the answers some need. I know several of you collect specific items (topics), and would think that joining or belonging to a specific group would be helpful in your quest for any knowledge on the subject (not to mention access to sales circuits for buying the actual "stuff").

I will start:

I belong to the following groups:

American Philatelic Society (life member)
United Postal Stationery Society
Postal Stationery Society (Great Britain)
Precancel stamp Society
Perfins Club
Mobile Post Office Society
TPO - Seapost Society (Great Britain)
AZ-NM Postal History Society

I belong to them because they fill a need to learn about the various
subjects I collect.

SO, let's hear from some of the rest of you, and see who and what group you may belong to, or if you don't belong to a group (local stamp clubs may also be added) why not?

My primary club/group is SCF!

Current Member of:
American Philatelic Society (APS) www.stamps.org
British North American Philatelic Society (BNAPS) www.bnaps.org

Former Member of:
Royal Philatelic Society of Canada(RPSC) www.rpsc.org
dropped it this year because BNAPS gives me the Canada-related info I prefer. RPSC has more worldwide coverage.
American Topical Association (ATA) www.americantopicalassn.org
Joined for one year just out of curiosity. I'm not a topical collector.

I am a member of:

British North American Philatelic Society (BNAPS) www.bnaps.org
(paying member of five of its specialized Study Groups as well!)
Royal Philatelic Society of Canada(RPSC) www.rpsc.org
Vatican Philatelic Society
Ottawa Philatelic Society

I am also on the organizing committee of ORAPEX, one of Canada's national shows and a WSP (World Series of Philately) show.

I am considering membership in:
American Topical Association (ATA) (because my 6-yr-old daughter LOVES collecting her butterfly stamps with daddy!

Former Member of:
American Philatelic Society (I found it to be too general for my needs, though I have been looking again and I might give it more serious thought if I could get my old membership number back!)

Perhaps we can revive this thread as:

Q/ Did you join any new clubs or societies at the World Stamp Show NY 2016?

After recommending it to others, time & again, I joined the American Topical Association (ATA), though I still don't collect topicals.

I bought books from The West Africa Study Circle (WASC) and the Society of Israel Philatelists (SIP).

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

I have been a member of APS and ATA for a few years now. While at the show, I attended a couple of very interesting presentations hosted by the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society. After perusing their publication The Chronicle and talking to a few folks who were members, I joined up and look forward to learning a lot more about U.S. classic issues.

Since purchasing a hoard of duck stamps from another SCF member, I've become intrigued by this area of collecting so I wandered by the National Duck Stamp Collectors Society table a few times at the show but there was never anyone there. I'll be looking further into this at some point.
