I'm very pleased to announce that the number of images on www.stampforgeries.com now number more than 5000.

The 145 images on the newly released page on Tibet brought the number of images up to 5073 from 208 stamp issuing countries/entities.

When I launched the site 3 years ago I thought 10000 images would make it 'complete'. Now, 3 years older and much wiser, completion is nowhere near 10000. It's like collecting world-wide. You keep expanding and adding more and more stuff...

Anyway, I wish to thank everyone who supported me reach this milestone

Recently, I have started to add 'mouse-over' features showing genuine characteristics, and I look forward to adding more features in the time to come.

Congratulations! But if you think about it, it is really a sad thing that there is that much "garbage" out there.

Peter, I agree. But forgers have been there since the beginning of philately. So at least its not a new phenomenon. Hopefully freely available education/information will raise the awareness ultimately improving things.

Just went to your site--very nice pictures--your still working on it? Holy crap-what a large amount of work. Got plenty of info on fake Iran-thanks to the life long work of M.Sadri and his book($200.00usd)-keep it going!

91stang,
Yes. I work on it daily. I usually add content every day.
Unfortunately, I don't have much information about the forgeries of Iran. I've heard before that Sadri's book should be a goldmine. A pity it is so expensive

Geoff,
Thanks! I'm glad you find it useful.

jkjblue,
Thanks! Every time I visit your site I feel the urge to just do 1840-1940. Very inspiring!

Anyway, I'm working on Hamburg at the moment. Should be some good stuff in the pipeline for the classical collector.

For the German States, I'm going through old forgery literature (Bohne, Schloss, Serraine, Bynof-Smith, Billig, Eareé & Oppitz), combining their descriptions / correcting errors by validating against newly certified examples. For the 3 Schilling below, 11 certified stamps were used. This is quite time-consuming, but fortunately I enjoy the help of a very knowledgable collector.

ClassicalStamps,

Fantastic work. This is the type of reference the hobby really needs to survive in the digital age.

I don't have much in the way of forgeries in my collection. The only one I can think off-hand is a forgery of the Theresienstadt stamps mentioned here. If you'd like all I have on it for use on your website, just let me know.

Classical Stamps ----Congratulations on your in depth work on forgeries that is on the internet . Very helpful for all the look at it .
On the Tibet there is seven different types of forgeries that need to be explained before one can know that a person has a real stamp of the first issue .

Postmaster,

Thank you for your encouragement!

Your material on Theresienstadt would be more than welcome. I've actually had Theresienstadt on my to-do list for quite some time, so this will be a good opportunity to finally get it done

I think you have my e-mail, if not you can send me a message through the forum or here: http://stampforgeries.com/contact/

Floor trader,

Yes. Collecting the various 'classic' forgeries would be a fun project. All should be illustrated and described on my Tibet page (in addition to many of the modern forgeries).
