I have never had an interest in the Stamps and covers of the Victorian Era, but having this collection in front me to sell for a friend has sparked an interest I haven't felt before.
It has had me searching and learning all weekend when time and power failures allowed....and it's been a lot of fun.

I am looking at all these nice items but I cannot afford them and they will soon be gone. But I will look back on these days as a special moment in my Philatelic Life.

I think I should sell them slowly !

Here are some that I will be selling here soon......Maybe !

These two were shown elsewhere....

I guess one can become attached to stamps like they do to many other things.......Oh Dear !

Londonbus1.....More to come

Hi, It would be interesting to see what you sell them for. I have been trying to sell my Penny Black mint for some time with no luck. I am surprised on the catalog price for it, I was told it is worth 16 Thousand Pounds in mint. Is this true? Does anyone actually pay that much for one stamp? If so which auction house is the best place to sell this mint penny black to get the top dollar for it?

16,000 $coots for a Mint Penny Black would be fairly optimistic IMHO. I only collect the Kings though.....

Nice stuff LB1, good gracious that is a stunning collection!

Have a good one,

Skilo54

duncanvr,

It depends on condition. Can you post a scan ? does it have gum, Part OG, hinged ?????

16,000 is a bit steep I'm afraid.

A few more examples from 'The Collection'.

There are a number of pages like these two. He was obviously in the reconstruction mode. Varieties and Flaws are noted where known and he picked the best copies he could find. Many have 4 margins, if not then 3½ etc etc. And clean too, it was lovely turning the pages.

And below is an 'Ivory' Head, SG#15c.

Michael,

there are a lot of sharks swimming in the QV LE territory and in particular I would never sell a penny black without knowing which plate it came from. If you look at the SG catalog, the value for the plates, used, varied from a couple hundred £ to several thousand £ for plate 11. No matter what, with nice material, I would get at least two blind prices from dealers.

I took a quick look at your blacks and I don't think any of them are plate 11. The IF and RI both look like 1b to me and PG is 7 and NG is 10. But, please take these with a lot of salt since I am far far from being an expert.

All of them look very nice and they ought to sell for a nice price. You might think about going up to London at the end of February for Stampex and see what they might fetch.

All best,

Larry

Hi someone asked me to upload my mint penny black, let see of this upload works. It is hinged, what would be a realistic price for it?

It looks like the corner is cut off. Is that correct?
How is the gum?

Idhaber...Great to hear you !
Thanks for the tips, very useful for a Victorian Newbie like me. How did you tell the plates? You were right on the 1b's !

I'll be in touch later.
