New listing looks nice and clean, no extra bits which is good.

Pictures: The first picture which is tilted very much to starboard should not be there. You really just need one front and one back unless a third picture is a zoom in on some detail.

So I would keep the second and the forth.

Re-entries I am not good on. There is a web site reentries.com or something that will help.

The changing to USD or whichever currency has to start in your PayPal account where you would need to add a currency as a secondary or more extra currency and then assign which one is your main one. When you have more than one currency you can flip them around when you wish as main, secondary, etc.

This allows you to change USD to AUD within PayPal, only paying their 2.5% instead of your bank's usually higher % exchange fee. Then you can withdraw your own currency to your bank. Or, when you withdraw funds you get to choose one or another of your currencies. Works either way.

In ebay it probably has to start with you choosing the currency you wish to list in. On dot ca I can choose US or CAD to start a listing. They also have this little note next to that area:

Quote:
Listings in US$ will attract more interest from US buyers and on average are 15% more likely to sell.

Hmmm, on dot com it is only USD, on dot com.au it is only AUD. Hmmm, OK, I guess even changing your PayPal account will not transfer through to ebay. I guess I order to sell in USD you have to be signed on to dot com or dot ca when you list an item.

Haven't tried that myself so proceed with caution (small amount item listing perhaps). I can sign on to whichever ebay site with my same user name and password and start a listing (Sell an Item) and it chooses the currency automatically. I haven't completed a listing though (yet).

In scanning a stamp you can do it in a dust free clean plastic page but it is better (but more dangerous in handling) to lay the stamp on a clean scanner bed and place a black matte paper over it as the black (or dark) lets the stamp show up much better.

Or, as per Rod222's suggestion, use blue tack to affix a piece of black pape rto the scanner cover so it's always there.

Yes, much better pictures!

The two pen cancels are the long black arcs going across the forehead and nose, from the "E" and "G" downwards.

As Bee See says, but also there is a faint faint smudged cancel below the pen marks. It is like the cancel was thought to be too light and so a postal person used their pen to make sure the stamp was properly rendered unusable.

Hi all, I have taken the angled picture out and noted the pen cancel. Next time I buy one of these old stamps I am going to be very cautious. This coming weekend I am going to fix some of my other Canadian stamp ads on ebay. I may just use a camera instead of the scanner. If I do that USD into my paypal I will have to list all my items in USD. The problem is I am also selling other countries. Indonesia for instance. I think ebay should allow uses to advertises in different currencies within the listing. ebay are cleaning up on listing fees which is really hurting my effort at selling. I maybe try selling on this site when I get 50 posts. Has anyone had success selling on here? Any tips for when I get to that point? Thanks all

No, not true. You need to have USD as one of your currencies in PayPal so you can accept it in payment, that is all.

ebay itself is the place where you set which currency to list in.

on ebay Canada you can list in CAD and USD
On ebay USA you list in USD
On ebay Australia you list in AUDOn ebay Philippines (oh) you list in whatever their currency is.
On Great Britain (GB or UK) you use GBP (pounds sterling).
etc etc

You most likely have your account on ebay Australia because you have to because you live in Australia but I think you can sign on to ebay dot com and list there. Or wherever suits you better. I mention selling in USD as most people around the world understand the USD, the GBP and the Japanese Yen. ebay happens to be more US-centric though.

KGV Colletor on SCF here has been doing something or other on ebay for over a year now. He has a couple threads where he talks about selling with different currencies and on different ebay sites.

John (KGV Collector) says that selling on ebay dot com is cheaper than listing on ebay dot com.au ,

Selling on here happens all the time. Smaller audience but dedicated. Provided as a courtesy to members only. I haven't sold on here as of yet, check the rules in case of any there, I have seen one listing removed on here because of a rule infraction of some sort. Watch and learn basically.

Duncan, you've been a very good sport and I'm thrilled to know there are people out there that truly want to learn about what they're selling. So many times, it's all about the "flip"; buy low, sell high and pretend that no one gets hurt along the way. Well done!

I agree with Brian. You've been an exceptionally good sport about things, Duncan!

Sometimes we have people pop in and ask "questions" when it's really obvious they are just trying to peddle something. Then when a member points out a potential problem, the peddler jumps all over them.

You were completely honest and up front, and your request for constructive comments/criticisms was absolutely sincere. You didn't allow anything to rub you the wrong way, even though there were many comments. I'm impressed!

I sincerely wish you the best in your sales, wherever you choose to set up shop.

If you ever have any questions regarding the authenticity or potential problems with a stamp you are thinking about acquiring, feel free to post the stamp pic. It's not uncommon for beginning sellers/collectors to make some acquisition "mistakes". We've been there and done it. We aren't experts, but many of us have gotten fairly good at spotting problems -- and none of us will try to buy the item out from under you.

I appreicate all the help folks. I need to go through all the stuff in my store to get it right. Appreciate if anyone looks at my other items, just send me emails, and please be as picky as possible as it all helps. I probably got spelling errors and desc erros to. I just need time to get it right cause I still got a few months of work left. Then I need to sell full time. I've been a collector before but being a seller is a whole new ball game. I want to be an honest seller. The end game is getting it right. The good news thanks to all of your great helps is someone is watching the Cartier stamp. I hope they buy it:)

Hi all

Please look at my ebay item 180792708456

Item
View your listing: Canada #17b Mint No Gum CV$1150 + a used #17 CV$220 Fantastic Stamps! -

Tell me where I am going wrong please with the wording in the ad. I put all new pics just now of the 2 stamps front and back.

Also I got this early Canada cover today. What is it worth? How to word it to sell it? It just came to me as part of a USA FDC collection from 1950s. It seems like a cover I can sell in my store. Any help designing the listing wording and title would be great. There is no senders name. Ok thoughts please everyone. thanks you all
