Today UN Stamps provide the collector with a fun and affordable area of collecting. I believe most covers can be acquired for .25-.50 cents and most of the early issues go for pennies per stamp even in mint condition. As others have stated, the majority of UN issue stamps feature high quality and interesting illustrations. In my mind, a win-win area for anyone interested in expanding their collection!
Well I blame SCF for my addiction collection. Bought a couple of lots on here last year and have kept going.
Actually, when I was a kid, my parents had this cheap set of history books (the pages kept falling out) in the living room. On the last volume, The Modern Era, there was a massive picture of this UN stamp, #2, on the cover. It always thought it was awesome. I think it was the stamp that got me hooked on these.

Although I suppose it was commonplace on parcels, these are the only examples of a double oval cancellation that I have ever seen with from the United Nations (NY):
In my opinion, the UNPA, like all Postal Administrations, has sometimes been guilty of milking the cash cow -- especially in recent years. I'm not sure if their long-running series (e.g. Endangered Species) are because collectors especially like series or if we just collect them because they issue them.
And the fact that they're abundant in Mint and FDC, but so rare as postally used,.... Well, that speaks volumes.
But, I still maintain they are a valid postal authority and worth collecting. And I would go so far at to recommend them to youngsters because of the variety of topics, economic and social issues, and the geography. Topical collectors love the animals and other themes.
I've got a vario page filled with used UNs. At least two (though still somewhat unsure of the top one) with split ring cancels. But yours are obviously more complete wt1.

Just to point out, many countries issue stamps aimed at collectors. UN is the only entity that I am aware of that issues stamps ONLY for collectors. By which I mean that it is virtually impossible to mail a letter using UN stamps. The UN severely limits its intake times, amount of items you can give in to mail etc. If that doesn't make their stamps Cinderellas, it is quite close!
Much more affordable than White Ace and for the price listed you apparently get pages right up to date. Obviously you'd need more than the one binder they include.
My dad collected all UN stamps until his death in 1999 . He had a complete mint collection and I think the U.N. serve a purpose......we are not alone in this World !
