This is too hard to me, these are the only two early (if? pre 1900) Japanese stamp I have. Any information welcome(different catalogue nrs., CV, scans of similar stamps, and especially paper types- the Y&T mentions something about different paper types, but I don`t understand)

To my rather untrained (on Japanese stamps) eye,

The left hand brown one looks like a Scott $9.
the right hand blue ond I think is a Scott #10 from 1872-73.

Someone with more experience in early Japanese stamps could probably give you more info.

Your 2 stamps are from the 1872 issue, with no syllabic characters.

For these 2 denominations, there are 2 basic paper types: wove and laid paper. Hold it up to a light and look through the stamp, and you should be able to see whether wove or laid. There are several minor variations due to thickness, but that is a highly specialized area not well covered by any of the major catalogs and I personally don't bother. The only minor variation that is somewhat easier to spot is the porous wove paper. There are also a ton of perforation varieties.

In the 2011 Scott catalog:

LEFT 1/2s, unused price
9 (stiff/brittle wove),$25
9b (laid), $80
9d (soft porous wove), $80

RIGHT 1s, used
10 (wove), $26
10a (laid), $29

Reprints and forgeries (both unused and used) abound. But to me, neither of your stamps are obvious reprints/forgeries.

I basically concur with Dave9911. He's obviously faster than I am!

Thank you both! I`ll check them again for paper soon. Now the other problem is that first still has gum, but two bad ( paper:( ) hinge. Guess I`ll try to remove them, even if it will loose (luckily only a part) of gum.

There are a number of threads on how to remove hinges, you might try the q-tip rubbing technique to reduce damage to the back.

I'd be extra careful. Based on the pic of the 1/2s stamp, it looks like you might have the hard/brittle wove paper.
