I have this example of the bluenose perfectly centered and MNH but, it has a weird circular stain or mark on it that looks like a maple leaf in the center. Would you have any thoughts on this ?

Yes, the point is between the two masts. The stamp has perfect gum....cant see how it would be a cancel unless it was regummed

To me it looks like a cancel - circular arc at front of boat, circular arc behind last boat, some letters within circular arc, something between sails. Could someone have played with a handstamp. |

Your stamp is actually used and with a light 'violet' or 'purple' cancellation.
What has happened is that your stamp came off the cover / piece and you were lucky enough to retain the mast majority of the original gum.
The only other suggestion would be that this stamp received a 'favour' cancel and was never applied to a cover.
Hope this helps.

Here's a wild idea. Is it possible that this is a mint stamp which was stored face to face with a canceled stamp and over time there was ink transfer due to moisture? The cancel is very light, and it's difficult (from this photo) to tell if the type is the right way around or not. I think red tinted inks (the cancel) tend to be more unstable and susceptible to running. Just a thought. |

After a closer inspection, I beleive this is a cancel stamp that has been regummed ! The gum is too pale (should be yellowish)and you cannot see paper mesh at the tip of the perforation. I have written to the dealer in Great Britain to return the item and am awaiting a reply. Thank you fine members ! I would not have realised this without your replies.

Hello Coriandre: The way your stamp is curling makes one suspect strongly that it has been regummed.

Just by changing to negative and fooling with the contrast brings out more of teh cancel so you can see it was a large, probably revenue type cancel. |

Yes, the stamp was really curling. I am convinced that it is a used stamped regummed. The seller has not been responding to my emails and has a return policy. Purchased on ebay with paypal so I am confident that I will get my money back. The seller to stay away from is roydinsdaleuk. Puzzler, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. It really shows much better |

Just an update. I have received a reply from the seller who will provide a refund upon reception of the stamp. Thanks to all once again for your detective work !
