Let me start by saying I know nothing about stamp collecting. However I am finding it very interesting since I found this stamp album. I have an Imperial Stamp Album. The only date on the album is 1899. It says, "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1899, by the Scott Stamp & coin Co., L'td., in the office of the librarian of congress, at Washington." Now I don't know if that means the album is that old, but It looks old. Can anyone tell me about this album? I don't even know where to start with the stamps. There are a few in the album, but most are in a small envelope in the back of the album. Many are stamped in the late 1800's. If anyone can help me learn more about what I have that would be great. I'm afraid I don't even know what questions to ask, so please be kind.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave:

First thing, go to www.linns.com and take a few minutes intop looking around the site. There is a section on the basics of stamp collecting. After reading the site for about 15 minutes, you will get the just of what stamp collecting is, and then you can proceed from there.

Then you'll have the simple questions that we can help you with, and you'll soon find a direction you want to move into with the collection.

What you have is a pre-1900 (or so) collection. Classic, beautiful stamps, with some nice cancels.

David

Dave, that is an old album put out by Scott back in
1899. Copies appear regularly on ebay. If you can
scan and post some images of pages with stamps, we will
be able to give you some idea of value.

Thanks everyone,
I will post some pics as soon as I get a chance. Usually, during the week I do not have much time for this sort of stuff so it may take awhile. But I'll get to it eventually.
Thanks again,
Dave
