Hello everyone! I would say the following stamps are from Argentina, but I can't find them in Scott's. Are they for postage or revenue or??? Would also appreciate the date for them.
Thanks so very much.
Donna

I'm no expert on stamps from this country, but they are Argentina Provincial Government Stamps of 1858. I'm not sure if they are authentic, though. I have a very old Scott WW Catalog that lists them at the very end of the Argentina listings under the sub-section "Buenos Aires", as the "A1" design and #1 through #8, however, the Scott catalog goes on to issue a warning that:

Quote:
"Counterfeits of Nos. 1 - 8 are plentiful."

Thanks - I wonder how you can tell if they are fake. These are not gummed and are on hard paper. Now that you told me where to look, I did find the Scott's value - and since these are quite high in value, mine are, of course, most likely a fake!

As far as I've heard and seen, authentic ones tend to have a very grainy, poor quality look about them versus the more well printed fakes. I could be wrong, but my set sure looks purdy ;)
