Here are a couple of nice items.

The small cover is from Guernsey during the German occupation. The postal card is from thec Isle Of Man with an "Internment Camp' cancellation.

Very nice. It never even occured to me that internment camps would have their own cancels.

Fascinating postal card. I have a few questions that I hope somebody may have the answers. The card was sent from an internment camp (not a POW camp), so I assume Dr. E.J. Christian was a German civilian in England at the start of the war, and subsequently interned. Anybody know what "ÖTVÖS 214" refers to? I'm guessing "43241" is his identification number. Also, what's the history of Hutchinson Camp and where was it located? Thanks for your indulgence.
Regards, Robert

Edit: I suppose Dr. Christian could have been a British citizen. From the Isle of Man Government website:
"In the Second World War camps were located in the Douglas area, Peel, Port Erin/Port St Mary and Ramsey. These held much smaller numbers, sometimes only for a few months until the risk individuals posed was assessed. There were also some political detainees including those held under section 18B of the Defence (General) Regulations. This enabled the Government to imprison those citizens thought to be dangerous to national security without charge, trial or set term. Examples were members of the British Union of Fascists and the IRA."

I believe that "Ötvös" is the last name of the internee. This is a Hungarian name which may reflect why he was interned (although Hungary didn't formally join the Axis powers until November 1940).

By the way, the Isle of Man is not in the Channel Islands.

Further to my last posting - the man that the cover is addressed to was Hungarian, Mr. Izod.

I did get information that this man was interned because it was believed he had nazi sympathies. This was later proven to be untrue and he was eventually released. He had in fact fled Hungary to get away from the government of the time that had sympathy towards the nazis.

The number trainwreck referred to was a serial number he had while interned - as far as I know.

I don't know why I didn't scan this earlier but I also have another card from the same people but with a different camp cancellation.

Later, I will try to dig up information on the camp itself.

The sender of this cover is again Dr. E. J. Christian Otvos.

Thank you all for the clarification regarding the gentleman's name. I did discover that Hutchinson Camp was actually a number of rowhouses the government confiscated. The houses were in two rows facing each other across a common area, which they surrounded with barbed wire.

About the card from the internment camp, I don't understand why the card was sent if only to show "i'm on the Isle of Man". No statement was checked.
