Millie the bilingual macaw could be seen at Expo 67 and also visitors could hear him swearing. That got him into a controversary.

These paintings were on show at Expo 67.
Burundi was not a participating country.

I remember the Russian pavilion - it was unique and huge. If I recall correctly, shortly after the fair closed, they dismantled it and took the pieces home!

This sent me scrambling to find (but couldn't) my Expo 67 cover. It's a first-day from Monaco that I think I procured in the France building. Nice cover and now I am inspired to work harder to get the collection in some kind of order (hahaha).

It was a great trip for us from the states. I think my folks were a little naive thinking they could just find a place to stay without reservations. I can remember driving around a lot before we found a place in the suburbs. Someone had created a nice lower level suite in a modern apartment unit that featured four motel-like rooms and a joint kitchen and dining- living room area. It was great (for a kid).

Hello, so you've been in Montreal for Expo 67! Monaco had a pavilion so you probably got your cover there. I wanted to buy a cover collection of Expo 67 from a member of the stamp club. Like you she couldn't find it and then I just forgot about it. Syracuse is not far, do you sometime come to Montreal?

to Timbres ... yes, I have been to Montreal several times, though, not for several years. I saw my very first major league baseball game at Jarry Parc (Expos vs. Atlanta Braves) in 1969 and I was a fan of the team for as long as it existed. Also went to games at the massive Olympic Stadium (Jarry seemed more fun).
I love your city. It's magnifique! (Even though I mistakenly turned right on red there once and was pulled over by a motorcycle cop who sure sounded like Maurice Chevalier).

Expo 67 was great - I was 13, so old enough to appreciate it all, I think (I had been to 64 NYC World's Fair so was an old hand at that point).
A couple of distinct memories - one afternoon we were there, there was a sudden downpour which lasted for quite some time (actually, the rest of the day and into the nite) ... for quite some time we stayed dry in a smallish African building, which was built something like a huge straw hut. It was fine, except the African music (mostly drums) kept playing for the hour we hung out - it finally drove my mother nuts, I think.
That evening - soaked to the skin, we went to see a performance - maybe at the Czech building or a theater - of Lantern Magica (spelling?), which combined moving pictures with live actors - I had never seen anything like it, before or since.

I see you have more memories than I have about Expo 67. I was only 6 years old back then and we went to visit it only one time I think. My father just didn't have the extra money to bring us there many times.

I was a big fan of the Montreal Expos. I loved to watch baseball. It was great when we had a good team and crowds of 40 000 in the Olympic Stadium. Just this week a politician was talking about bringing major league baseball back in Montreal.

It's very interesting to read you. You must have been a good journalist. Thanks for your post!

Daniel
