It seems like a lot of work to be constantly disposing of duplicates if it involves scanning and selling individual items.

Yeah, it would be. I occasionally sell the remainders of the collections I buy on ebay, but no way am I going to scan each and every one of the 100K+ sorted duplicates I have sitting around.

I also used to sell my duplicates in APS circuits at around 30% of catalog: that worked surprisingly well but each circuit only has 192 spaces and sets take up several, so I'd have to make a lot of circuit books to make an appreciable dent anymore.

I might mount a bunch in a set of albums at some point and consign to an auction house -- that would be a good way to get rid of a few tens of thousands in one go. I am happy to trade duplicates with other collectors as well.

But my experience is like floortrader's: most duplicates you get are common or mid-range material anyway, and there isn't money in selling them (at least not any money comparable to the amount you spend).

Not sure how many I have but have 18 gallon totes full of WW. I really need to get in books/pages. I just recently won the Steiner page give away (THANKS!!) and just started on working on Romania, didn't realize there was so many pages just for 1 country. It appears to me many countries pumped out a lot of stamps during the 70's and 80's so not sure where I am going to stop at yet. So I cannot imagine all the pages and books I will need to have to print all of the Steiner pages. Time will tell.

I just print Steiner pages as I need them rather than print all pages.

Thanks I think I'll do that instead. Did some countries over produce stamps just to make money?

Yes, and I believe that most stamp issueing entities are guilty of that now, including the good old USA. Just think about it - there is absolutely no reason to issue ten lollipop stamps or anything that smells,

Over the years I found the best way to process a lot of stamps from the collections I buy and the many bulk lots that were won at auction was to use a method that is profitable and quick . I use a set of extra albums as seen below to organize and mount stamps without handling my main set of albums . The Scott Internationals were not made or design to be handled for years of use .

The "FEEDER SYSTEM" works well for me because my main collection is so much bigger and handling it causes the binders to fall apart too quick .These extra sets will end up at a stamp auction were I will get the best price for my duplicates . It is about once every three or four years that I consign a set of albums to a auction .

The picture shows both my feeder collections ,the red albums handle single stamps and the full set of International handle most of the stuff I work on . Then it takes a few weeks to transfer material to my main collection ,that I don't have ,it is also a good way to improve those stamps in my main collection that has issues like bad centering or heavy cancels .

floortrader - when you consign your feeder albums, how do you go about replacing them?

Do you typically just have enough spare albums from lots you've purchased, or do you specifically go out and try to find a used set of Scott Albums again to buy on ebay?
