It seems like a lot of work to be constantly disposing of duplicates if it involves scanning and selling individual items.
Yeah, it would be. I occasionally sell the remainders of the collections I buy on
ebay, but no way am I going to scan each and every one of the 100K+ sorted duplicates I have sitting around.
I also used to sell my duplicates in APS circuits at around 30% of catalog: that worked surprisingly well but each circuit only has 192 spaces and sets take up several, so I'd have to make a
lot of circuit books to make an appreciable dent anymore.
I might mount a bunch in a set of albums at some point and consign to an auction house -- that would be a good way to get rid of a few tens of thousands in one go. I am happy to trade duplicates with other collectors as well.
But my experience is like floortrader's: most duplicates you get are common or mid-range material anyway, and there isn't money in selling them (at least not any money comparable to the amount you spend).
