Perforation Gauging Manual Vs Electronic?

Nitro, I received your gauge and it matches my AutoCad version exactly.

Now it is safe to say digital perforation gauges are 100% accurate.

Thank you for verifying - Now we know with out a doubt this works and accuratley its just a matter of it being accepted within the industry. So now I have a 3c probably 41 that is perf 12.5x 12.35 not listed or known as well as the 15c large queen 12.2x12.2 . You may say that 12.2 would be rounded down but if that was the case why would unitrade list a rare perf 11.8 in the footnotes. Me thinks there are secrets to be revealed!!

Mariost- Sorry about running over your post and not acknowledging your contribution. It would be great to see a digital product that would be simple and consistant. The simple part being an alternative to BEE SEE teaching an online course in auto Cad . We've gone through the perfOmaster in another thread but it has faults (no offense to makers or users) in that it auto reads dpi and if perfs are faulty it gauges based only on the readable ones. The one I use is easy other than it requires manual overlay and true 600dpi scans. We look forward to what you come up with and as you can see it will be put to the test.

AutoCad is a very expensive program, it just so happens to be my profession, so of course I have it. Very few stamp collectors would have access to it. My goal was to prove that digital perforation gauges are the most accurate way to measure stamps, and for me. AutoCad was the obvious choice.

Nitro's gauge is also accurate, and as he says, the PerfOmaster is excellent, but only works well if all the perfs are full and the background is dark. It does not work on covers or pieces.

Hello all:
I measured my Unitrade gauge using the VSC6000 at the Greene Foundation. The measurements were done under high magnification. All readings were accurate to 1/100 of a millimeter which indicates to me that, for all practical purposes, the Unitrade gauge is as accurate as is needed for the hobby.

Do you know if the Unitrade gauge is excatly identical to the new Instanta gauge or was it corrected since some maintain that the old Instanta gauges are more accurate than the new ones?

Out of all of the perforation gauges that one can easily currently buy, I have found the newest Unitrade Uni-Safe perfect perforation gauge to be the most accurate perforation gauge around.

wouldnt electronic vs a hand gauge be more a matter of speed? If I had to do 1000's of stamps I would spend money just to save my eyesight. 1/2 the people who should be checking dont anyway. I very seldom get a commom 551 to 573 USA set that is all perf 11 like it should be. Sometimes I think I am the only one who actual checks them.
