I was cutting a mount using a fiskars cutter and I guess the blade was dull, because the mount moved and I sliced right through the stamp!

Luckily it was nothing of particular value, but it still annoys me.

Sorry, just had to vent...

It would have really annoyed me as well. Just be glad your finger was not in the way as well.

Hi

Been there done that. Did it once and learned not to cut a mount with the stamp in it.

Or to use the ruined stamp as marker for the future cuts....

Well, I do have both parts, and it is a postage stamp, so it's going on an envelope for use on my next mortgage payment. Haven't had to lick a stamp in years...

Ugh, Kirk, you brought back some bad memories.

I had purchased a collection, and there were a few album pages with some good value stamps, so I pulled those pages out and put them face down to examine the stamps on the backside. That's when I noticed there were some relatively common stamps that were stuck down for some reason, but that I needed for my collection. So I got some scissors and haphazardly cut out those stamps so I could soak them later. As I put down my scissors, I suddenly remembered that the album pages were double-sided.

Anybody interested in some premium stamps at 50% off (I'm not talking about the price).

Ouch, KHJ.

That hurts to ponder. I hope they were modern stamps and/or not valuable....

They were early British Commonwealth stamps. I don't remember exactly, but I think I cut through about $50-$100 (catalog value) worth of stamps. Well, at least I was able to rescue a couple of 20c common stamps.
