I just installed it and bought part one of the US Specialized for $29.99, which is all I need, since I don't do duck stamps or postal covers.
I'll send some impressions tonight, when I have had time to play with it. |

I'd be very interested to hear your review of the application, would you mind taking some screenshots of the interface - It is definitely a step forward.

Too bad they didn't release a version for Android. Also I find it a little strange that they released it as an app instead of an Ebook through iTunes. I guess I will stick with the paper version unless they release something for Android or an Ebook via Amazon Kindle or Google Books. |

apastuszak -Thanks for all the information on the iPad Scott app. I have the feeling you already answered this, but is there any way to "mark-up" the catalogue for inventory or want lists? If not, it clearly would be less valuable. Thanks! |

I don't like the way they divided certain collecting areas across the parts. You're almost forced to buy Parts A, B, and C just to get the complete listings for a single collecting area. |

You can't mark it up. I have emailed my contact at Scott requesting the feature. I have the 2009 PDFs on my iPad and I have marked them up extensively with Goodreader. |

So searching is a bit of a pain.
While in a file, I can only search in that file. So, if I am in file 1, I can't look for Scott 3510. I need to back out to the main app, search there, and then it will show me which file the stamp is in. I can then click on the file (and buy it if I don't own it already). Once in the file, I have to search for the Scott number again and it will take to the page the stamp is on. I'll post some screens and a better explanation later.
EDIT: looks like you can ONLY search by catalog number. |

How many files are we talking about? Is it the same as part a, part b etc, - that is, the way it is sold in sections? Thanks! |

Part A has 7 sections. So, you cant search outside anyone of those 7 sections.
Overall the pdfs were a superior solution to this.
So, since my iPad is jail broken, I can do more snooping around than most. It looks like my suspicions were correct, and the app is merely a wrapper around a bunch of password protected PDF files. This seems to be Scott's attempt to provide some modicum of copy protection to their catalog.
The problem is, the wrapper offers LESS functionality than a good iPad PDF reader does.
I'm disappointed that it's not really an app. I was hoping I could browse stamps the way an iPod browses music. You pick a country, then a year, then you see a bunch of stamps. You pick one and get the details.
I'm hoping the World Catalog comes out soon and you buy by country. |

Quote: I have the 2009 PDFs on my iPad and I have marked them up extensively with Goodreader. This is what I do. Unless the app offers equal or better functionality it's a waste of time. Obvious sign of jailbreaking on your ipad |

Pardon a stupid question, but what is jailbreaking? I never cease to be humbled by how little I know. |

The resourceful person could find tools to remove the PDF password and stitch the PDF files back together for use in Goodreader. But that's between you and google to figure out. |
