Can anyone tell me whether coloured cancellations were commonly used in this era?

I have a scan of one example here and while I can see that it is a Vienna Cancellation and the 28th of July, I cannot make out the year date nor can I decipher any of the other wording.

If it is not a postal cancellation, is it a revenue cancel of some sort?

Thank you! That was a big help.

Can you clarify what the "Reco" (I can see that there was more to the word(s)in your posted examples) postmark was used for? Was it a special service? Or was it a specific location?

Normally the use was for Reco (Recommended or Registered Mail).

Hello!
Red obliterations is less common than Black. In fact this stamp in Michel Österreich-Spezial 1991 is worth 17 D-mark with black cancelation. With a red one the price jumps to 75 D-mark.
Bets regards
Magnus
