I found this stamp in my Dad's collection, and was surprized. In looking at a 1972 Scott catalog, this stamp is considered rare. An 8 overprinted on a 30.

I've seen used stamps like this on ebay for $500, and mint for more.

However, I've also seen the stamp on a dealer's site for only $1.25 (I tried to buy it, but they were sold out.)

Is it truely rare, or is there a similar issue that is not rare? (eg some special watermark or something that differentiates.) It doesn't say enough in the old catalog I have.

Curious to know if I have a nice surprize or just an ordinary stamp.

Picture ? Many SCF members are not from the US and don't use Scott's Catalogs. Most Germany collectors use Michel so the Scott's number means nothing to most of the members here.

Thanks to both of you! I sincerely appreciate it. I don't have easy access to a scanner, so it was hard to put a pic up. I'm working on getting that issue resolved.

Thanks for the link. It is perfect for what I needed!

I am curious about the stamp. as I see there is very big difference between the watermarks.
Why is the other one so much more valuable ?
I don't speak german.

A very important factor in the price of this stamp is postally used vs. CTO vs. unused. This stamp is only rare as postally used. Unused stamps and CTOs are worth very little. If you have used stamp it need to be expertised.
