Thanks for sharing the images, carey. Even though most checks are not worth a lot, they are fun to collect. The crayon mark does reduce the value in most cases. They do make a nice side addition to your collection. |

Thanks for the comment ncbuckeye. I know the picture quality is poor and I am trying to improve in that area and any help would be appreciated. Most of the images I have seen on this forum are just great. I have another 30 or so more checks but most are not as old as the ones I posted. |

Old cheques (we've adopted the French word in Canada mostly) give you that historical feeling. I like them.
For pics a flatbed scanner is the best option for most paper products. There is possible a great shot of stamps with a camera, I have seen a gentleman on here do it and people thought it was a scan. He was a professional photographer though. Lighting, a tripod, all that stuff needs to be just perfect, which is hard to do for most of us point and shoot people.
Search on SCF for photographing or such like, there is a small bit here.

Hi Carey
The cheques you have scanned are quite interesting. A lot of revenue collectors go after these 'beaver' types. In the current E.S.J. van Dam catalogue, the catalogue value for a complete cheque is $2.50 each.Sometimes the price can be enhanced depending on any additional marking and stamps added.

Thanks for the comments puzzler and bujutsu. I will refrain from posting such low quality pics in the future until I get a scanner. I am not sure ,but I don;t think I have anymore of the "Beaver" varity, just more of the other types of canceled cheques, and none as old as the "beaver". Nice to know that some people collect these ,as I was unaware there was any interest in this type of thing. |

Nice collection Carey. I have a few as well, and love the combination of engraving, stamps and cancel varieties. A fun and inexpensive side collection. |

I definitely collect cheques. While there doesn't seem to be a lot of catalog value there, they are definitely fun. If any of the branches still exist, they would be desirable to some that work there. It's fun to give them as a gift, as I did recently for one of our bankers. |

I was a member of ASCC years ago (even regional director when they had them), but let it lapse at some point. I think it was mainly because my interest lies in Canadian and there wasn't much Canadian content. I corresponded with some great people though. |
