Color is from Scott catalogue.
I have 15 used copies of the 3s featuring Burgenland costume.
Fronts and backs shown of four that all seem different.

As quoted by Litho in this thread:
https://goscf.com/t/20096#20096

Quote:
Some of the values were reissued in 1958/59. Whereas the originals of 1948-52 were printed On Toned Paper, with Glossy Yellowish Gum quoting Scott, the reprints were On White Paper, with Flat White Gum

The designs of the 1958/59 reissue usually appear clearer & sharper due to finer photo screening.

The first is obviously an original printing because of the 1953 cancel date and toned paper, and the last, 1958/9 printing, also by the date and white paper.

However, the second stamp is also on white paper, but the printing resolution looks more like the original printing. The third stamp has a browner shade and is on the toned paper.

Anyone can confirm which printings these stamps really are?

BeeSee, I believe I remember something about these stamps. Other than of course they seemed to be everywhere when I was a child!
Do you have a UV light? I vaguely remember something about these being printed on fluorescent or tagged paper?

Peter

Brian - I just did this series myself last month and was wondering about the same as you. I found no more useful info in the Michel catalog (disappointing!) so you will need the Michel Spezial or Nettokatalog for more details.

I did not have these catalogs, but I remember I divided mine also by the ribbing off the paper (on the reverse). Some showed a strong vertical ribbing, other horizontal - whilst others showed no ribbing whatsoever - and I even found one that seemed to have diagonal ribbing but it might have been my imagination...that's about what I remember. And a ton of shades!

Enjoy!

btw - These are very nice stamps - lots of childhood collecting memories in them
