Newfoundland 105b Upper Right corner block 6 with cracked forehead
Shown in position 2/3 (sorry about the stamp mount line going through the stamps) Also an ink drag in selvage above 2nd and 3rd stamps.
(see details) Also note that the gum only goes half way up the top selvage as can be seen by the line in the top selvage. As can be noticed this is Comb perf instead of line perf.

Nice one bwdavis.

I like the 'track' marks on the selvedge especially. Will have to check my stamps in my collection for that variety.

Line Perforation and Comb Perforation are explained on Page 21 of 2012 Unitrade catalog.

Line Perf - generally a perforating wheel is run each direction seperately.

Comb Perf. - Punches holes in both directions at once doing an entire row or column plus a one stamp width.

The following image shows the difference on NFLD 104,105,108 where the hole where the 2 directions meet is perfertly lined up on Comb perf. but not on line perf.

Thanks for the explainations and for the pictures to do so. Quite clear on a block but is there a way to determine this from a single stamp ?

bwdavis,

I second Coriandre's post: Great image and information. Thanks -- I learned something about the difference between the two

And a picture is worth a thousand words
