From the morning news...

Quote:
Wathinkha, Myanmar (CNN) -- Opposition leader and Nobel peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi won a seat in Myanmar's parliament Sunday, her party said, a momentous victory following a decades-long fight for democracy.

I'm not one to get involved with another country's politics, but I have to believe Democracy is a good thing -- everywhere.

Anyone care to post some Myanmar/Burma stamps?

I sold my collection of Burma some time ago but still have a few Flag items which I will scan and post at some point.

The story today touched my heart like no other and brought tears to my eyes.
During the War years, my father spent some time in Mandalay and for whatever reason [I will never now know] it was the only place he ever really spoke about and he told me how fond he was of the area and the people.
In 1988, I decided to take a year off from work to travel and this very place [because of my Father's recommendation] was top of the list of places to visit.
Sadly it wasn't to be. Due to the student uprising and the ugly Military crackdown that followed, I was unable to cross the border in spite of many attempts to do so. I had an opportunity to visit some years later but declined. I did not want to visit such a beautiful nation ruled by such repressive and dictatorial Military rulers.
In 1988, Aung San Suu Kyi should have been the new leader of Burma, like her father before her, and I hope the news today is the start of a better future for the Burmese people.

For 24 years I have had the greatest admiration for this wonderful woman, a real inspiration in an often cruel and sad world.

Thanks for the personal insight, LB1.

I was a little reluctant to post since it's a bit off-topic, but I thought it was worth celebrating.

Those are great BlackJack --- thanks for accepting my "challenge"

And the first error set seems like a great addition to your collection!
