Well done ladies, if you believe what you have stated, the reproductions start to look like an attractive buy for you.

The "2" in the corners of the sheets is the plate number.
Penny blacks were printed from plates 1-11

This reproduction sheet has been available for about 6 years. I bought one when first 'announced' for under $30. They had been sold on ebay, properly marked, for the $50-60 area. so the rest of the price is mystical profit.

About 80% of the penny blacks can easily be plated by anyone. You can download the full Nissen set of images at:
http://www.philatelicsannex.org/ref...ference.html

A few are very close in letter positioning, there it takes practice and an experienced eye.

For the Penny reds, there are other means, among them the Fisher-Brown measurement system. [Gauge and books sometimes appear on ebay]. with that 99% of the blacks and 90% of the imperforate reds can be plated.

OK, I missed the updates to this thread since I last posted here.

A belated thanks to 65170 for the confirmation -- that's exactly what I thought (on all matters you posted). Which is why I asked for a citation to back up the earlier claim that the Queen had sold 2 complete sheets of Penny Blacks to an American businessman, among the other claims that were made. I agree, such a sale would surely have been front page on every major philatelic periodical.

Again, the only known complete mint sheets are in the possession of the British Postal Museum.

Any claims contrary to what 65170 posted should only be accepted with the proper citation/references.
