I was rolling through the online auctions and this collection was for sale housed in this album and was wondering if someone could tell me more about it. Is it from a certain series you know of or a one off?

Normally, that is a Scott US Platinum Hingeless Album.

However, what's really inside the album, is anybody's guess. It's not unusual to find a mix of album pages and binders, so always re-confirm with the seller.

[EDIT: Rileysan has pointed out further down the thread that it is a Scott National Hingeless album. Sorry about that.]

Also, if I remember correctly, when it was discontinued a full set consisted of 4 (or more?) albums. You will need to find out which year range is covered in that album. Also, get a confirmation that no album pages are missing. Some collectors will remove pages of items/formats they don't collect, and they don't always put the removed pages back into the album -- one of the pitfalls of buying used albums.

If it is the Platinum hingeless album, it is a very nice album.

If you are interested in pursuing it, keep in mind the following:

1. The mounts are clear split-back, not open-top.
2. The album is discontinued. You will not be able to get pages for the past decade.

You should also ask the seller --
1. What year range the album covers, and are there any pages missing?
2. Are all the mounts still intact?
3. One of the production runs of the Platinum had a problem with the mount adhesive staining the pages after several years. Confirm that these pages are stain-free.

If I remember correctly, one SCF member recently acquired a Platinum album. Maybe they can chime in. However, you should probably change the thread title to US Platinum Album -- otherwise, they may not read the thread. Alternatively, you can do an SCF search for "Platinum" and see if you can find the thread.

Where are my manners? I forgot to...

The album pictured is not a Scott Platinum album, but rather a Scott National Hingeless album from the 1970s.

More information on this album is found here:

https://goscf.com/t/17127

Both of these albums have been discontinued, but supplements for the Platinum album are available at least through 2010.

As for the album shown ... please read my review in the other thread. There are some very telling photos that may steer you away from this album.

Brian is correct. Sorry about that. I'm getting too old. I pulled one that had been sitting on my shelf, and yes, it is a National Hingeless album, not the Platinum. My apologies. Thank you for the correction, Brian!

I also did not like it, so it's been sitting on the shelf for years.

You've piqued my curiosity. Does your album have the same discoloration of pages due to the mount adhesive? I'd love to see photographs!

Thanks
