Hello everyone! Need a little help please. I thought the following stamps were from Spain, but I'm having difficulty finding anything out about them. Would appreciate any information.
Thanks so much.

Hi Donna,

The one at the bottom is a postal tax (obligatory tax) stamp from Peru, Scott #RA13 from 1928.

They were used in Peru after Chile had occupied the Tacna and Arica areas and were supposed to help pay for the costs of a plebiscite but I don't think this ever took place.

The stamp with the portrait overprint is also Peruvian, this time from 1894.

I think the first one is a Spanish charity label "for orphans of the post office".

Here's a link to a previous discussion here with some more examples:

Thanks for the information. I would never have known those two stamps were from Peru. Also the link was very informative and much appreciated. Now these 3 stamps will be put in their proper places.

Hi everybody:

The plebiscite between Chile and Peru never took place. Finally on 1929 with the USA arbitrage, Tacna city went back to Peru and Arica city went to Chile.

By the way that stamp shows "El Morro de Arica", a big hill where occurs a bloody battle between both armies on 1880.

Best regards,

José
