I've collected the German Foreign Volunteer Legions for about 10 years now, but there were always two sets that I was sure I'd never get -- the imperforate Flemish Legion Emperor/Empress sheetlets and the imperforate Walloon Legion sheetlets.

There were a couple reasons for this First of all, they were expensive -- the catalog values were the highest of the Legion issues. But most importantly, even if I could scrounge up the cash, they never appeared at auction. Until a few months ago, I'd seen the Flemish Legion set a grand total of once in 10 years, and I'd never seen so much as a photo of the Walloon Legion set.

Well, SCF, it's been a good year for the bucket list! Back in February I managed to snag the elusive Flemings, and this week I finally laid claim to the Walloons.

A little background here.

Aren't they pretty!

The 100 Fr sheet has a small crease, but considering the rarity, I'm not gonna complain. Now I just need to erase all my bookmarks for auction sites since my stamp budget's blown for the foreseeable future.

Very nice grab on the sheets. Over the last couple of years many items have come up on the market that have been stored away for years in collections.

My visions starts to blur when I think about all of the different philatelic items related to Germany ... esp during the 1930s & 40s. Everytime I think there's nothing new left to learn, this happens!

Thanks for sharing!

PostmasterGS, congratulations on acquiring these elusive sheetlets. It must be great to be able to cross something off of your bucket list. My Germany collection is only in its infancy and I have acquired some nice sets but not any really rare items yet.

Beautiful sheets! I had heard of and seen them in Michel but to see the sheets even over internet is stunning that they even still are around. Thank you for showing them.

It's always great to find and buy something we have been seeking for a long time. Do you have anything from the french fascism supporter - "Légion des volontaires français contre le bolchévisme" and the French Waffen-SS (Charlemagne division). I search your website but couldn't find.
