Colombia 1951. Reversión Concesión De Mares. LT 696 COP 0.02 Regular Mail. Overprint on 1939 "Petroleras" issue (LT 492). 2.000.000 pcs. Dent. 12. Water Mark. Printer: American Bank Note Co, The first oil concession made by the colombian government to french geologist Roberto De Mares around 1905 was about to expire in 1915, when he interested a group of U.S. investors that created in Delaware a company called Tropical Oil Company - Troco, that established itself in Colombia by 1917 buying De Mares rights. Troco operated the oil fields at Infantas, and the refinery at Barrancamerbeja until 1951 when their rights expired and property returned to the colombian government, that created the colombian oil company "Empresa Colombiana de Petróleos - Ecopetrol" with these assets. The comercial arm of TROCO was escinded in 1948 to form Esso Colombiana, part of Exxon-Mobil nowdays.  |
