At last week's stamp club meeting, I made the sole $1.00 reserve bid on a mixed lot of used Canadian stamps, sight unseen.

In the bag were two varieties that I needed:

673 8 cent Coastal Vessels - Quadra
- with the shifted rudder impression
and
- the broken support cable.

778i 14 cent Ice Vessels - Northern Light
- with the weather balloons.

But I also successfully bid for a 74 1/2 cent Queen Victoria in mint, light hinge, original gum (fine to very fine) condition.
It looked like this mounted on its auction page, except the tear wasn't obvious until I opened the mount for the first time.

However, it was both torn almost in half and and was glued to the paper it was displayed in. I was "took" - another learning experience.

It's always great when you find treasures. An auction is probably one of the best ways a club can serve it's membership. Does your club offer a member auction. A few times each year we allow club members to bring up to 3 auction lots to a "giant" auction. The lots are sold during live bidding with the club member keeping all proceeds. This provides a great way to "recycle" unneeded duplicates or random material.

tstraz - our club has two meetings per year dedicated solely to member auctions.
It is also live bidding with a minimum reserve on each item, the club retains 15% of the sales price and there's no limit on the number of items a member can enter.

cynical - thanks for letting me know.
I've edited the title and the commentary to the correct Scott #673.
