Here's an IR Official doing it's job. OHMS cover with 1d lilac from the Inland Revenue, with Hereford duplex to Ross.

Sorry to bump this thread.

I've bought a lot from a auction house that went out of business. There were some nice rare stamps, but also some fakes, and a few stamps that had to be determined. One of those is a 1 shilling stamp 1883 with a i.r. official overprint. I really can't find anything about this one, maybe one of you could help me out. Is this real?

The overprint does seem to be "real" with a reservation about the size of the I.R. but that may be due to the camera angle.

Many fakes do exist so it is worth getting more opinions.

Thnks for the reply. Yes I photographed it at an angle. This one should be better:

Is this 1883 overprint also mentioned in the Scott catalog?

I'd say the overprint is genuine. The stamp is a SG O7 printed in 1885 and that would be a Scott #O7 also. An unoverprinted stamp is a Scott #107.
