"Top Dutch DJs receive their own stamps

Amsterdam, 15 October 2014 - Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Afrojack and Dash Berlin were honoured with their own stamps on the opening day of Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). Four of them were handed their own stamps by Herna Verhagen, CEO of PostNL. Tiësto was also immortalised on the unique DJ stamps, but was unable to attend at that moment.

The stamps were handed to the DJs at the ADE X Samsung Home on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam, where radio presenter Giel Beelen (3FM) did the presentation. Beelen explained how the Netherlands is leading in electronic dance music and the major role the five DJs have had in that success. During the Amsterdam Dance Event, the Netherlands is yet again the global centre of dance culture, a fact underlined by Herna Verhagen as well: "It is with good reason that dance is called one of our main export products."

Dance lover

With the issuing of these special stamps, PostNL pays homage to five famous Dutch DJs, who have made a name for themselves across the globe. Verhagen: "I myself am quite the dance lover. I am therefore very proud to be able to present these flashy stamps to five great ambassadors of our country."

Acknowledgement of dance culture

The depicted dance heroes were proud of their own stamps. Hardwell: "To see Dutch dance music and its artists being celebrated in a national way is a huge moment in our scene's history, for myself to be a part of this is something truly inspiring. The invitation by PostNL fills me with pride and respect for our country and the support it continues to show our music scene." Tiësto: "I can't believe my face is on a stamp. Such an honour! Thank you Holland!"

Afrojack was jubilant as well: "I feel very proud to be a part of something that helps celebrate the success of Dutch DJ's worldwide, to be able to represent my country in this way is really incredible. I'm so honoured." Dash Berlin was also pleased with the stamps: "It just feels like this untouchable institution reserved for only kings and queens. It is fantastic to get recognition for the dance music culture in such an official and prestigious way."

Bright, musical design

The stamps almost pop right off the page. Designers Mark Klaverstijn and Paul du Bois-Reymond (of Machine) edited the portraits of the five DJs in bright colours, giving the stamps the atmosphere of a true dance event. In addition, a hidden chameleon code has been added to the stamps; this invisible code can be read on a smartphone using the CEE App. Five music clips from recent tracks can be heard after scanning the stamps, one from each DJ.

Availability

The 'Dutch DJ' stamps are marked 'Nederland 1', the denomination for items up to 20g in weight destined for mail within the Netherlands."



It's very rare that my 2 hobbies come together, and as one who has played records produced by each of the 5 DJs honored by the Dutch post office, all I can say is OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

Hi DJC. This is a really interesting issue by PostNL especially the inclusion of code embedded in the design. I doubt the British Royal Mail would be quite so adventurous and innovative with their issues. Is this a world first? Musical stamps!
