I thought some of you would be interested in what it is like to serve on a major philatelic show organising committee. So here is a peek at a few of the things that go on. First... the "ramp up"...
We have the first meeting of the ORAPEX 2009 Show Committee on Monday.
Two items that must be decided are:
1. The local philatelist who will be honoured on the show cover cachet; and,
2. The theme of the two-day show, and how the designs of the two show cancels will reflect that theme.
Since the past ten years, the show cachet has always honoured a local philatelist who has contributed significantly to the local, national, and international philatelic scene. For the past five years, we have honoured a living person. This way, they can appreciate their life's work.
Potential themes suggested are:
1959 - 2009 50th anniversary of the Seaway Invert stamp.
1909 - 2009 100th anniversary of the first powered flight in Canada; which we understand
Canada Post will be issuing a stamp to honour this event.
1909 - 2009 100th anniversary of the Montréal Canadiens (my personal favourite as Les Habs are my team!)

1909 - 2009 100th anniversary of the discovery of gold near Cochrane, Ontario.
1859 - 2009 150th anniversary of the issuance of Canada's first decimal denominated stamps.
We will have to see what other suggestions come in and then we will reach a decision on Monday.
More details as they become available...
Cheers!
David
