I can't say I am a huge fan of binders in general. Has anyone ever taken the pages from their album and had them bound into a hardback book, or even spiral bound?

I haven't done that before, but have thought about it many times. The only problem would be if you had to insert extra pages, you'd have to take the whole thing apart.

While I've never had an album bound, I did once get a manuscript my grandmother wrote bound into a book. It was a few years ago, and I can't remember what I paid (not cheap, but not too unbearable). If you look in the phone book or on the web under book binders, you will probably be able to fine someone. Some small printing companies also offer the service. Call around and make sure you get the specs on what exactly they need for the pages (margins etc).

I would only bind sections I had completed. So if I had every stamp from 1990 through 2000, I would get that bound.

Get a nice springback binder. Will allow you to also make changes later.

If the pages are letter-sized, there are a few options, including getting a custom, leather springback binder.
See: http://www.mayapplepress.com/Binders.htm

If the pages are A4-sized, there are many options available in Great Britain.

Larger pages can go in any of a number of album-sized binders available from Gibbons, Lighthouse, or others.

Alternatively, you can use the Google machine to look up "thesis binding." There's an entire industry that turns printed pages (or doc or .pdf files) into books for PhD candidates. Only problem using such a service will be in the thickness that the stamps/mounts adds to the book. You'll have to have the bindery add spacers at the spine side of the page to compensate for the added thickness.

Good luck.

I'll have to try the Springback binder out. Depending on how well they hold the pages, it may be the way to go.

I would be reluctant to entrust pages with stamps mounted on them to a bookbinder.

And if you submit pages without the stamps mounted, there might not be enough space in the binding to accommodate the stamps after they are mounted.

Ok, I think I have found my problem here. I went through some older White Ace album stuff I have at home, and I have learned my aversion seems to be with large 2" binders. When I look at the White Ace 1" binders, everything seems to work better. Pages turn better. The binder is lighter. Overall, a really nice improvement.
