I think a bit later... 1890s maybe? This is just what I think at 12:30 at night. |

Thanks New, I tried to look these up on line and came across the blue one on e-bay on sale for $1,800 but not sue what the number is or real value. Better off asking the experts here. |

The year date on the blue cancel is 1886 I believe (stand to be corrected), so earlier than 1900. Are they two different types or series as the 5c has No under lettering (engraver?) while the blue 15c has. Also on ebay they mention a Type 1 as N under B (and perhaps not?) whatever that is. Must be the small under printing? France beginner here. |

Ah, I found a site in French (search for SAGE, the engraver's name I think). http://rvcantineau.free.fr/The under lettering (my name) has the N in INV under either the you of REPUBLIQUE (type 2) or the B of REPUBLIQUE (type 1). Neat. So the blue 15c (bleu) is an 1876 issue (emission). Am I right? And you have the type 2, the N under the U. |

The blue on could be Scott 92 ('78) or 103 ('92) depending on paper. Since it seems that it was postmarked around 1896, #103 seems more likely. However it is supposed to be on quadrille paper. Can you verify that?
5c could be Scott #67 or #78 depending Type I (N under B) or II (N under U).

I used a magnifying glass with a loupe built in. And I guessed after looking on ebay and a few other sites. They don't let me drive anymore but I can pick out a stamp's details from a hundred paces. French folks call their stamps by the engraver's name, like Gandon or Sage when they are listing them on ebay, not the series name like Peace and Commerce like we do mostly. |

@Ram, how can I tell what kind of paper it is? I am not a paper expert, LOL
@Puzzler I think the blue has a N under the you making it a type 2.
@Ram I see a letter under the you of the green but it looks like a M and not N.
@Puzzler/Anthony Great sites thank you |

After reading on the site I mentioned I was assuming that the words SAGE and INV would be on the stamp so did not try to really see the letters.
To zoom in you need to rescan at a higher resolution. It looks like you just used a zoom tool on the original scan which would mess up any details. Try setting your scanning software to 600 ppi or higher. If that is what you did already then the stamp is blurry to start with. |

I tried to scan at 1200 dpi, but had to optimize it to upload any suggestions? it does say SAGE INV on the bottom left but I cannot make out what is printed on the bottom right. |
