Looks like the Royal Mail is going to deliver stamps 24hrs from the moment Team GB wins an event in the Olympics. Here is a video telling us what their plan is:

They are also offering subscribers the chance to buy Gold Medal winners FDC's and mini sheets, all to be delivered after the games end. I've jumped in for this but it's a bit like writing a blank cheque as whilst they estimate the cost based on GB's last Gold Medal tally (19), being the home team means we may well do better than that. At around £90 for 20 gold medal winners, if we start doing really well then the bank balance could take a hammering!

I see Royal Mail have announced the stamp of the two British Rowers will be available on Friday !

I make that almost 48 hours.
They couldn't even get that right.

I would have had a bunch of stamps pre-made with spaces for overprinting the sporting event and winner(s). Then use a linotype press to overprint the winners overnight.

Not particularly snazzy, but it gets the job done. ;o)

I also notice that the stamp for Bradley Wiggins shows him in his helmet, so you can't see his face at all. Could be anyone then!

JonEBoy, I am also subscribed. After yesterday, I think we will beat 19. Royal Mail said that if the total is 20, they will bung the 20th in for free. Woo-hoo!

I wonder if the winners have/had to sign a release to have their faces on the stamps?

It's probably required to become a member of the GB olympic team.

Scifi7 - I only subscribed to the FDC's but now find myself trailing up to the Post office daily to pick up the mini sheets!

Of course if I'd thought it through I would have gone for both (and got a discount) but it occurred to me that it might be more than I could afford. Now I think about it in the light of day, how could it be any less if I buy them separately?/

Now kicking myself, particularly as Murray has just won another gold for GB!

JonEBoy, to be fair, the listed price for the whole lot would have put me off also, a couple of months ago, before Olympic fever started. At least in my case, 6000 miles to the nearest Royal Mail P.O. is a good deterrent from spending all my cash on stamps, now that the fever has set in. Luckily I have family at home buying the individual stamps for me I am starting to think that the stamps look great, and will make a great set. Nice one Andy, very pleased for him.

Ok, Alistair Brownlee has just won GB's 19th Gold (in triathlon), equaling our Beijing 2008 tally. That's 19 FDCs now - next one is free for Royal Mail subscribers if it stops at 20!

JonEBoy, so it's an eye-watering 28 GB golds on the last day of the Olympics, and some events still to go... time to get our cheque books out!

On the plus side, I won't have to pay VAT

Can't wait to see the covers! Very excited, although quite a bit poorer.

UPDATE:

29 golds in total!

For the FDCs, that's 116 GBP / 182 USD (without tax).

Family at home have been collecting the stamp sheets for me. Stamps are not available individually, which is a con, so you have to buy a mini-sheet of 6. So that's another 104.40 GBP / 164 USD.

May not have time to post on SCF for the rest of this month, will be busy writing cheques!

Here's the link for the miniature sheets http://shop.royalmail.com/team-gb-g...sku00201250/

I want these stamps but there's no way I am paying £104.40 *sigh* I would consider splitting them if we can get a group of six.
