Here are a few of my machins I have recently acquired. They are in no particular order but I just wanted to scan them for you.

These all have different Scott numbers despite their superficial appearance.

Machins Pg.1

Machins Pg.2

Machins Pg.3

Is the one on 6th row, 6 right considered a machin, despite double face?

I have no real idea friend but I suspect that if Arnold Machin designed it then I would think it would be considered a machin.

I also know that I have 3 different types (not counting the perforation differences) pre decimal issues, the Regional issues and the decimal issues

Here is a little machin history for you-

Beautiful machins, you are inspiring me :) I am starting a machin collection myself, and have bought a small batch, but yet to sort because I don't have an album etc. yet. But I'm chomping at the bit to get going!

Hi Gilles & All

The stamp you are referring to in the sixth row is a Machin but, that type is referred to as the "Double Heads" series of Machins

I actually have a few of those and that one just slipped under the radar. One I get a machin reference guide I'll be able to get them squared away and filed away in order of Scott number. Thank you for the encouragement and kind & helpful words. -Jay

I wouldn't use Scott for Machins personally.
Have you seen the printable pages on adminware.com?

Weren't the double head Machins to honour anniversary of the penny post? 1980 or something? Think I read about them recently. Obviously not closely enough.

A second thought. Is Arnold Machin's original relief sculpture of the Queen preserved somewhere for posterity?

I've been sorting/cateloguing my Machins for the past week or so. Probably have 75% done and so far I am up to 189 out of the 355 I am aiming to collect :)

You will find that the Machins won't remain tangential for very long. They have the power to consume you if you aren't careful.

I see that. I like them because you must have an eye for detail to truly appreciate them and that's where I'm at right at the moment. I love the vivid colors too and so does my daughter! win-win!

Well I've got the pre-decimal issues pretty well sorted out and I'm now into the regionals getting them in some kind of order. Wales is fun to do as is the Isle of man but the Northern Ire are numerous and then there all the acorn trees and thistles and Tudor Roses to do...ugh... HOWEVER I did manage to locate a VERY HELPFUL PDF file on the subject and it explains them and gives some insight on how to get them all sorted at least preliminarily. Despite the learning curve I am really enjoying these. Anyone have any Machins that they don't want? I may be looking for some soon. lol

I'll get mine scanned after I get them in some sort of order.

I've almost finished sorting mine, just have the regionals left to do.

Have a ton of dupes, so might be able to fill in some gaps for you.

I wouldn't say didn't want but I have more than enough to sort through so let me know what you need.

Here's a section of the bags I'm looking through.
