I recently got this United Nations cover with a letter in it.

I tried to google the recipient's name but there were far too many results for "John Moore" so then I decided to look up the author "Arthur Watson" from WRCV TV.

My search showed that WRCV TV, Channel 3 in Philadelphia is one of the world's oldest television stations beginning in 1932 as W3XE. In 1941 it became an affiliate of NBC and then became known as WPTZ.
NBC would eventually take over and the company would be renamed to WRCV TV.

For more info on this station please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KYW-TV

Mr. Arthur Watson was the general manager of WRCV TV and who would eventually become president of NBC Sports and then executive vice president of NBC. He is credited with bringing the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics to the network. He died in 1991 at the age of 61.

His obituary can be found here http://www.nytimes.com/1991/06/29/o...s-at-61.html

Anyway, I do not collect covers and I do not collect letters so if anyone wants this cover and letter please let me know and you can have it. If there is no interest within a month (by 27Aug2012) then the stamp will be taking a bath and the letter will be going in the trash.

Hi canadianphilatelist - I'd love to have it.

If you agree, please use my postal address, which I'll email to you next.

I'll gladly send you some Canadian mint if you collect modern(1950's to present) as a return gift. Do you have a small want list?

Post office was actually open today so I sent it. They probably won't process it until Monday though.

I do feel lucky getting it.

My only other UN stamps were those officially issued at EXPO 67 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

tefloncinco, I agree. I've got a UN collection going and quite enjoy it. Some very attractive stamps. And just received a couple of nice UN FDC from our friend I_Love_Stamps, so the pleasure continues.
BlackJag, nice cover. Good call jumping on a generous offer from canadianphilatelist.
And Smauggie....shame on you for being such a tease with that 1878. Making me drool into my corn flakes.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but, smauggie, have a look at this website.
I think it's your Joshua Ellard. Wright and Gracefield Quebec (along with Northfield) have since been amalgamated into the city of Gracefield.

Now, back to your local programming.

@ smauggie. I'm not easily tempted...I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't gamble etc. Stamps are my only vice; more specifically stamps off paper are my only vice.

@canadianphilatelist - Then I envy you. I smoke and drink from time to time and have been known to gamble on rare occasion.
