I snagged a set of old album pages on ebay the other day which included the older stamps included in the first scan. Since I had bid on the lot based on the large number of modern stamps included, these classics were essentially a bonus added to the mix, but I suspect that they will easily make the 25USD I paid well worth it. My questions relate to the three single scans that follow the first one. For the 1s and the 4.5p QV, my 2007 Scott cat notes that these need to have "a genuine and contemporaneous cancellation". Would these qualify? On the 1s KEV, Scott lists 2 varieties: carmine and dull green or scarlet and dark green - is this one green dull or dark?

Hi MBriggy

Your colour question about the KEVII stamp can be best answered by looking at the QV 1s stamp above it.
The QV stamp was issued in Green and Carmine according to Gibbons catalogue.
Given that, the KEVII 1s you show must be Scarlet.
In the UK, the 'rule of thumb' would be that Scarlet is more Red and that Carmine is less Red heading slightly towards maroon.

The cancels look OK to me. Not sure what the Scott remark is all about.

As to your assumption that you "will easily easily make the $25 I paid well worth it", it really depends on what else you purchased ofthe more modern stuff. The older stamp you show here would likely sell for about $10 so you can take it from there.

hope all my babbling helped a bit !

LB1, that's why I'm confused a bit. Scott names both the QV 1s and the 4.5p as "car rose & green", even though the green in the 1s looks more yellowish green compared to the 4.5p. To me the KEV 1s looks much more like scarlet than carmine and the green is obviously a lot darker, but the Scott descriptions of colors often leave me baffled.

Thanks, LB1 - I was posting before your post finished I think, but what you said about the scarlet makes sense. The lot included about 15 old Harris pages jam-packed with modern and many complete sets from the 1960's up to about 2001, so many holes were filled.
