I am glad to know that Jan Kaplicky is featured on a stamp by his own country, even that project was not built. Such a funky idea he and his Future System team had... this article on architonic, a tribute to Kaplicky, shows a monumental "head" still standing at Lord's cricket ground. https://www.architonic.com/en/story...tems/7000368 His other building in the UK, Selfridge in Birmingham is featured on page 6. |

Famous Atomium. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AtomiumI haven't been there yet -but still possible to visit, as it is preserved, although originally planned for temporary. The longest escalator in Europe is connecting one globe to another. Team of engineer André Waterkeyn and architect André et Jean Polak worked on it. This case, architects are not well known now (no English translation of André et Jean Polak on wikipedia) but the architecture remained famous. Belgium 17 April 1957 / World Expo Brussel 1958: Atomium / design: Edouard Meert, engrave: Leon Janssens There were copyright arguments a lot later than these stamps above - some snaps were censored and painted black. Not anymore thankfully. |

Wow, beautiful B/W photograph of the building!! Now you are not censored for publishing these private images, but up to 2016 it wasn't arrowed (unbelievable!). Is that the reason why this design is white-out..? Or just referring the Atomic model?? Belgium 4 April 1981 / 15th International Congress for Radiology / design: F. Vincent & J. Malveaux |

This is referring the Atomic model - with much thinner connection. Celebration of the Nobel Prize winner Werner Heisenberg, from 1932. Sweden 24 November 1982 / Nobel Prize Winners for Physics / design: L. Forsberg, engrave: M. Mörck |

OK, I am bringing this thread back to its title.. Robert Adam (1728 - 1792), who spent 5 years in continental Europe, worked under Charles-Louis Clérisseau and Giovanni Battista Piranesi, then returned to Georgian London. He used lots of geometry for his plan, elevation and the inside of canopies. GB 15 September 2011 / The House of Hanover: Robert Adam – 1763 Kedleston Hall / design: Atelier Works |
