I just ordered the Encyclopedia Of United States Stamps and Stamp Collecting 2012. Hopefully, I won't have to bother you guys with so many questions. The Amazon reviews are great. I still won't be able to determine the grade of a stamp the way you guys do, but it sounded like a fun read.

Glad you ordered the encyclopedia, but, at the same time, I don't think members in here minded answering questions. So, if you need to in the future, continue on <G>.

To all the new U.S. collectors:

I really recommend that you get this stamp encyclopedia. It's marvelous! Not only will it teach you everything you need to know about U.S.stamp history and collecting, the Glossary in the back explains every term you need to know. In addition to all that, each chapter recommends additional books. For instance, I just learned why watermarks are important, and there are recommended books and pamphlets on watermark procedure. This is truly an invaluable text for beginners. (One Amazon reviewer stated that he's been collecting for 30 years, yet he's learned things he didn't know.)

Zipper, thats the great part...we never stop learning..almost every time I speak with another stamp collector I learn...as far as grading,i keep it simple...it either qualifies to go into my collection or it does not.

I know this is an old post but I can't find a 2012 version of this book (as stated in the first post) anywhere. Is there a 2012 or newer version?

You can maybe find some online on ebay or other sites, but I am sure that they are out there.

Try BookFinder.com. I use it all the time for hard-to-find books.

I think you all are misunderstanding the question. It got me to looking, and I don't think there ever was a 2012 version. All I see from the used book sellers are the 2006 version, like here:

BookFinder had nearly 100 hits, all 2006 edition. Methinks 2006 is the only edition.

Thank you Basil and Robert that is all I found too, not sure what he meant by the 2012. I was just looking for a newer version if there was one out there.
