I have this Egypt stamp with a cancel that says: Zacaz..
I have been trying to find which town this may have been but since I am obviously missing 1 or more letters I did not succeed yet.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Peter

Peter,

when what you see as a C is in fact a G then the town is Zagazik

Best regards

Nice stamp Peter.
Postmark is sometimes referred to as a Bridge CDS (see the vert bars)
Nice to see someone interested in postmarks,
Zagazig is a goodie for Egypt.

Thanks Rod.
Lately I try to collect less countries but the countries that I collect more in depth. So I have begun to take more notice of postmarks, different dies and everything that I think that is making my stamp collecting more interesting!

Apparently the Spice Girls who are very keen collectors of Egyptian postmarks need one for their collection. They appealed for it at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics: I wanna really, really, really wanna zagazik ah

Zagazig has its own article in Wikipedia. Based on what I read (two major universities, center of European mercantile activity, etc.), it should be a common postmark, not a rare one.

Zagazig is a town where a hidden treasure of Pharaonic Treasure was found in the late 19th or early 20th Century.

It was quite an important place in Ancient Egypt, but would have had a different name.
